 | | Washington Photo Safari Founded in 1999, Washington Photo Safari teaches the techniques of photography by taking visitors and local residents on half-day and full-day photo shoots around key sites in the nation's capital and other cities. A professional photographer accompanies the group, offering participants extensive tips in camera use, image composition and design, proper exposure, lighting, and more! Photographers of all skill levels are invited to participate and any camera is acceptable, even cell phone cameras. In addition to the tourist journeys, Washington Photo Safari also offers one-on-one private tutoring, customized corporate group safaris, and intensive workshops on selected cruises. Praised by The New York Times as 'brilliantly twisted', Charolais by Noni Stapleton is a dark comedy that shows how far one Irish woman will go to make a quiet home. See this production at Dupont Underground on Monday, October 15, at 7 pm. The play is produced by Solas Nua, the only organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to contemporary Irish arts. This event is free, but donations will benefit Dupont Underground. | One Year: 1968, An American Odyssey As part of a series of installations celebrating its golden anniversary, the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery presents One Year: 1968, An American Odyssey, a one-room exhibition about a memorable time in American history. Portraits tell the story of 1968, when the Civil Rights Act was signed into law, and U.S. astronauts held a live broadcast showing pictures of the Earth. October 1968 was also when the Portrait Gallery opened its doors. Depictions of personalities including the Apollo 8 astronauts will be in the exhibition.
