The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund was established in 1984 to generate increased public support for the law enforcement profession by permanently recording and appropriately commemorating the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers. The fund also provides information to help promote law enforcement safety, maintains the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, and is currently building the first-ever National Law Enforcement Museum, located across from the Memorial in Washington, DC's historic Judiciary Square.

Dedicated in 1991 by President George H.W. Bush, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial comprises a three acre park honoring all of America's federal, state, and local law enforcers, in particular those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in serving and protecting our communities. Designed by award winning Washington, DC, architect Davis Buckley, the park setting showcases the two pathways of remembrance, which feature blue-gray marble walls engraved with the names of more than 19,000 fallen law enforcement officers. Each spring, the names of the officers killed during the previous year are engraved on the Memorial walls. Approximately 200,000 people visit the Memorial every year.

The Memorial Fund sponsors many programs and exhibitions throughout the year. The largest of these is the Annual Candlelight Vigil, held each May 13th to honor fallen officers and to dedicate the Roll Call of new officer names added to the Memorial walls.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund Visitors Center & Store, located about three blocks from the Memorial, houses various exhibits covering the history of the Memorial and the law enforcement officers it honors. The Visitors Center also features a gift shop where guests can purchase a memento of their visit to the Memorial. Proceeds from gift shop purchases help fund the Memorial and its programs.
