Lawn

Lawn, this year's summer installation at the National Building Museum is big, really big. Built on scaffolding above the building's floor, it fills the massive Great Hall with a sloping green lawn with many accoutrements of summer--perfect for spending a leisurely afternoon. Listen from the comfort of a hammock. The immersive summer experience offers the sounds of the season too. You'll hear crickets chirping, bees buzzing, and even a lawnmower whirring in the distance. Enjoy.

Cultural Tourism DC's online calendar is a valuable planning tool that complements the weekly distribution of the Culture Communique. With the help of two volunteers and some brand new software, you can pick date or select a program tag to help you identify events and activities that may interest you. It is very responsive and helps you target your key interests while making it easy to look and linger as you review an activity that catches your eye. Our volunteers are posting dozens of cultural events every week produced and presented by the best organizations in the area. Bookmark the Events Calendar and make it a go-to site when you're looking for something to do.

The Plane That Anyone Could Fly

On Saturday, July 13 at 10:00 am, see history in the present at the College Park Aviation Museum. Learn about the Ercoupe, an aircraft manufactured near the museum. Aviation expert Joel Carlson will share the story of the Engineering and Research Corporation (ERCO) and quest to mass produce the "Model T of the air." Billed as the ''plane that anyone could fly,'' it changed aviation. End the morning with a flight demonstration, and watch pilot Chris Schuldt fly a fully-functioning Ercoupe into the College Park Airport! Get tickets for this event here.

Brad Cole

The songs of Brad Cole address the human condition. Cole has been a fixture on the Chicago music scene for years, performing along side artists that make up the fabric of the city's musical legacy such as Uncle Tupelo and the Smashing Pumpkins. He led several Chicago based bands including Treatment, The Second Story and toured with NYC-based The Subscribers.  Hear Cole play on Sunday, July 14 at the O Street Museum.
