Rhode Island Avenue PorchFest DC

Rhode Island Avenue NE Main Street's signature spring event PorchFest takes place every April. This Saturday, April 13 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, enjoy an afternoon of music, dance, and poetry that brings together neighbors, business owners, and artists in a casual and fun display of creative expression. This is a free, rain or shine event, with performances on porches that are suitable for the entire family.

The Embassy of Guyana

The Embassy of Guyana is the Cooperative Republic of Guyana's diplomatic mission. The embassy is located at 2490 Tracy Place, NW. Guyana is the only English speaking country among the twelve countries of South America. The word "Guyana" means land of many waters and is reflective of the country's numerous rivers, creeks and waterfalls. The embassy works with U.S. representatives to improve trade and business opportunities. The Embassy of Guyana will participate in the Passport DC Around the World Embassy Tour for the first time on Saturday, May 4, 2019.

National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade

One of DC's largest spectator events is the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. Presented by Events DC, it is a springtime tradition set against the backdrop of DC's iconic landmarks along Constitution Avenue, NW. The standing area on the parade route between 9th and 15th streets is free and open to the public. The parade begins at 10:00 am this Saturday, April 13, rain or shine. See giant helium balloons fill the skies as marching bands, local dancers, cheerleaders and celebrity guests participate in this parade! Arrive early for best views.
 


Shakespeare's Birthday

Join the Folger Shakespeare Library for this beloved annual tradition, celebrating the birthday of the Bard with a day full of festivities. From Shakespeare performances and stage combat demonstrations to costume dress-up and Elizabethan crafts, there's something for everyone—including birthday cake! Hear discussions from Folger curators and scholars and enjoy live music. This free event begins on April 14 at noon.
 

The embassies of these countries will participate in the annual open house on Saturday, May 4.


Concert by Markus Schirmer and Miroslav Loncar

The Austrian Cultural Forum Washington, in collaboration with the Croatian Embassy, presents a concert by renowned Austrian pianist Markus Schirmer and Croatian guitarist Miroslav Loncar. The two musicians perform regularly together and will fill the halls with music from Franz Schubert, Franz Kreisler, Fernando Sor and Joaquin Rodrigo. Enjoy a musical journey from the late 18th to the 20th century. This event is on April 15 at 7:00 pm at the Austrian Cultural Forum. The event is free but you must register for tickets here.  
 


National Volunteer Week

It's National Volunteer Week! Join us in thanking the hundreds of volunteers who help provide some of the most memorable events and programs in Washington, DC. As volunteers for Cultural Tourism DC and our Affiliate Members, volunteers greet us, inform us, and keep us safe. More than 35 volunteers will devote a portion of the Saturday afternoon this weekend at Rhode Island Avenue PorchFest. We are grateful for their service.
 


Ekington Heritage Trail Working Meeting

We're searching for stories and photographs connected to the Eckington neighborhood. These are the building blocks for developing a DC Neighborhood Heritage Trail. Got stories? Got photos? Join us on Wednesday evening, April 17 in the meeting room at The Summit at St. Martin's, 116 T Street, NE. The meeting starts at 7:00 pm.
