Officially opened in October 2005, The Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) is an 110,000 square-foot world-class education arts and recreation campus located east of the Anacostia River in Ward 8. In addition to a 365-seat community theater, THEARC includes a regulation size gymnasium, a computer lab, an art gallery, state-of-the-art music and dance studios, and other first-rate facilities.
THEARC is a "home away from home" for the many underserved children of East of the River, enabling them to participate in dance classes, music instruction, fine arts, academics, and other programs - as well as top social services such as medical, dental, and psychiatric and psychological care at substantially reduced cost or no cost at all.
THEARC brings together an array of comprehensive programs and services from innovative partners, all of which embrace the goal of enriching the lives of children living east of the Anacostia River. Eleven organizations are based at THEARC including The Washington Ballet, Corcoran ArtReach, Children's Health Project of DC, Levine School of Music, LIFT-DC, Covenant House Washington, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington, Trinity Washington University, Parklands Community Center, The Washington Middle School for Girls, and Building Bridges Across the River (the partner that oversees the facility and THEARC Theater).
