L'Alliance Française de Washington is the leading resource for French language classes and Francophone cultural exploration in the Washington, DC metro area - a place open to all, that aims to challenge and enrich our views of the world, to reach across differences, and celebrate our common humanity.
Our goal is to introduce Washington to the most notable minds and current artists from the French and Francophone world, and to provide the highest quality French language instruction. We offer a wide variety of French courses, and social activities and cultural events, including lectures, concerts, films, exhibits, guided museum tours, "wine and cheese" parties and discussion groups. Each year, we present over 100 events in partnership with more than 40 local cultural organizations. At the same time, we strive to give back to the community through the Alliance Française Educational Initiative outreach program. AFEI inspires almost 300 DCPS elementary school children each year to expand their minds through the discovery of French language and world cultures.
In addition, our library has a collection of over 10,000 books, French newspapers, magazines, videos, DVDs and CDs, accessible to all members.
L'Alliance Française de Washington is a 501(C)(3) non-profit, non-governmental cultural and educational association headed by a Franco-American Board of Directors. It is part of the largest network of French language and cultural centers in the world, l'Alliance Française. Worldwide, the Alliance Française network serves 460,000 students in 130 countries.
