For 60 years as the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington (JHSGW), the Lillian & Albert Small Capital Jewish Museum collected and shared stories about the unique nature of Jewish life in DC. In 1969, JHSGW saved the city's oldest synagogue building by moving it from its original site, restoring it, and getting it listed on the National Register for Historic Places.
