Medical Care at the Battle of Stone River

Join National Museum of Civil War Medicine on New Year's Day at 5:00 PM on their Facebook page for a pre-recorded virtual program hosted by the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. Hear Director of Interpretation Jake Wynn discuss the medical care administered during the chaotic battle that took place the New Year's Day holiday in December 1862/January 1863 known as the Battle of Stones River or the Battle of Murfreesboro. The battle saw Union and Confederate forces suffer casualties in excess of 24,000. Learn how Civil War surgeons battled both bullets and the brutally cold weather.

The MusicianShip is a nonprofit with a mission is to change lives by facilitating music lessons, experiences, and opportunities. This youth development organization offers a range of music education programs, geared towards enriching the lives of students, families, and communities. Their After-school, Summer, Master Class, and Ensemble Programs, such as the Washington Youth Choir, serve youth ranging from 5 years old to the age of 24. Based in Washington, DC, MusicianShip reach students as far as South Africa, France, and Sint Maarten. Their projects include online learning offerings, The Wammie Awards, and the DC Funk Parade.


Guided Virtual Tour of Ford's Theatre

Ford's Education takes you on a virtual tour of Ford's Theatre and Civil War Washington. Learn about what the city of Washington, DC, was like for President Lincoln and some of the people he knew here. Explore President Lincoln's assassination at Ford's Theatre, and consider his legacy. In this interactive program, participants will see historical and contemporary images including maps, photographs and illustrations. Learn more about America's 16th president and the period he served in the White House. This session is 40-minutes plus time for Q&A.


Crafted Treasures

The term 'National Treasure' has been used in Japan to denote cultural properties. The crafts items in the list adhere to the current definition and have been designated National Treasures according to the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties that came into effect in 1951. Learn about artists including Tamura Koichi who used novel approaches in their design of pottery and ceramics. Artists who are masters of traditional artistic expression are designated 'Living National Treasures.' See six works from the Embassy of Japan in the USA's collection, created by Living National Treasures.


A Mexican Portrait

Women carrying flowers, traditional dresses and happenstance from everyday life. This free, online exhibit hosted by the Mexican Cultural Institute is Martha Driessen's Mexican Portrait. The collection of black and white images is composed in the style of street photography. The exhibit explores Mexican people through candid moments. Born and raised in Mexico City, Driessen has lived in the United States half of her life. See how  Driessen explores idiosyncrasies of her fellow Mexicans on both sides of the border.

Ancestral Female Wisdom

View a variety of colors, shapes, icons shown in an exhibit that evokes the diversity of the past and present. See a display that shows contemporary Peru, full of dense and varied symbiosis of geographies, customs, and paradigms. Artist Roxana Rivero's feminist ideals are represented with themes of pre-columbian Peru, using new technologies and a variety of materials. This virtual exhibit is hosted by the Embassy of Peru. Rivero is an artist with training in plastic arts who is active in supporting women's rights.
