Embassy of Peru

The Embassy of Peru in Washington, DC, executes the foreign policy goals of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru in the United States, as well as promotes Peru's culture, tourism, economy and education to the American people. The embassy art gallery shares exhibits, such as the current exhibit A Journey in Stone by the artist SABRE, which is on display through February 8. The embassy and residence also participate in local cultural events including the Around the World Embassy Tour and Winternational.

 

Evening of Indian Dance

On Saturday, January 19, enjoy a rich and innovative program from the Indian Dance Educators Association (IDEA) showcasing a variety of dazzling Indian dances at The Barns at Wolf Trap. IDEA is celebrating 25 years of nurturing the roots of Indian classical dances in the DC metro area. Jhankaar - Rhythms of India is the first of many performances planned for 2019 at Wolf Trap. The program explores the rhythms and melodies of Indian classical music and classical dance styles of India. There also will be a friendly competition or 'Jugalbandi' of one style versus another. This vibrant production celebrates the joy of 'nritta' or pure dance. Get tickets here.

Washington Wedding Experience

Sunday, January 20 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, the Washington Convention Center hosts the Washington Wedding Experience. Many show exhibitors will offer discounts, upgrades and bonus offers for show attendees. See beautiful wedding gowns, unique bridesmaids dresses and formal wear by the area's leading retailers. Chat with the area's most talented and trustworthy wedding professionals and see their work up close. Enter prize drawings, including the chance to win a free honeymoon.

Not Just Another Day Off: A Poetic Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On Monday, January 21 at 10:00 am, join award-winning poet Marilyn Nelson for this special poetry event at the Folger Shakespeare Library. The event combines poetry with historical speeches from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, Mary McLeod Bethune and more. Nelson's books include The Homeplace and A Wreath for Emmett Till. Canned and boxed food donations are requested. This event is free, but reservations are requested.

Get Ready For 
Passport DC 2019!

Cultural Tourism DC will produce the 12th anniversary of Passport DC this spring. The annual festival that commemorates 'International Cultural Awareness Month' in the District of Columbia runs from May 1-31 and offers a wide array of cultural activities presented at embassy open houses, street festivals, and performing arts organizations throughout DC.

A signature event during Passport DC is the Around the World Embassy Tour (AWET). On Saturday, May 4, from 10 am to 4 pm, embassies will host open houses and share their culture, cuisine and more during AWET. Check out this photo slideshow from last year here.
