The 2017 edition will run from Saturday, September 16 through Sunday, September 24 and will include more than 50 top quality tours. | |  |  See the Solar Eclipse On August 21, from 1:17 pm to 4:01 pm, observers in the DC area will be able to see a partial solar eclipse for the first time in nearly a century. The peak viewing time is 2:42 pm, when the moon will obscure 81 percent of the sun. You can participate in eclipse-related programming at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum National Mall building and its Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Visitors may get a pair of solar safe glasses as well as use the safe solar telescopes to see the event. Telescopes also are available at the National Zoo and the National Archives, where the latter will feature its records about past solar eclipses. The National Museum of the U.S. Navy at the Navy Yard will give a presentation on solar science and Navy operations. |  Grupo Gato Enjoy a free music concert August 20 at the National Building Museum as Grupo Gato presents Cuban Rumba songs and drumming. The featured singer and bandleader, Ernesto "Gato" Gatell, is one of the most recognized and beloved Cuban singers alive today. The 9-piece band uses the Oricha Bata-drum and vocal traditions to create call-and-response interaction in the songs and the drumming. Grupo Gato is Yudisleidy Valdez, a master of Afro-Cuban folkloric dance and the choreographer and featured soloist of the dances. The event does not require an RSVP |  RFK Campus Block Party Join Events DC on August 20 for a day of family-friendly fun with games, music, entertainment and the unveiling of a new mural on the Skate Park at RFK Stadium designed by Naturel. Professional and amateur skaters will be on site including DC's professional skateboarder, Darren Harper, local skaters the Shaw Boyz, and an all female skater group Skate Girls Tribe.
