Double Nickels Theatre Company

Founded in 2006, Double Nickels Theatre Company is a community theatre that pays tribute to the legacy of seniors and veterans by highlighting and sharing their true-life stories. The Company celebrates the seniors' contributions through its Reminiscence Theatre, original music, and artistic renderings. Double Nickels also honors seniors through its "Age Exchange" program. Seniors share their life stories and engage with younger generations who then perform the stories and gain a new perspective and a greater appreciation for historical events. Members of Double Nickels are participating in the April 8 Woolly Block Party and the third annual Anacostia River Festival on Sunday, April 9.

Tribute To Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Join the tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this Tuesday, April 4, at 7:00 pm in the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church. Participants will commemorate the work of Dr. King as a spiritual counselor, civil rights leader, and warrior for social justice. The program will include musical selections and excerpts from some of his sermons and speeches. The historic New York Avenue Presbyterian Church is the last place Dr. King spoke in Washington and the home church of President Abraham Lincoln.

Chekhov's Three Sisters

Stuck in a backwater town, three sisters and their brother search for meaning amidst missed opportunities and misplaced dreams in the clutter of lackluster birthday presents, pushy in-laws, and underwhelming suitors. Three Sisters pitches the sublime against the ridiculous, the romanticized past against an idealized future, and the individual against the unknown of life itself in Chekhov's tragicomic masterpiece about life's heartbreak and absurdity. Directed by Jackson Gay, this production is at the Studio Theatre through April 23.
