Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital

Hill Center aims to broaden the horizons of all who enter by providing high-quality arts, education and cultural programs and other opportunities to engage more fully in the life of our city. With partner organizations, Hill Center offers classes and courses for people of all ages and backgrounds, along with space for meetings, lectures, performances, gallery exhibitions and other events.

Privacy on Display

"Privacy on Display," is a cartoons exhibition at the Goethe-Institut running through March 7. Cartoons by American and European artists express a range of ideas and perspectives on privacy. In cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Washington, theaters have commissioned playwrights to write five minute plays themed around the question, "What does privacy mean to you in the digital age?" Between January 2017 and June 2018, these plays will receive public performances, staged readings and community forums at many of the theaters which helped commission them.

Lunar New Year Event

The Smithsonian American Art Museum honors the Lunar New Year on January 28 with a free celebration held right in the center of Chinatown (make sure to check out the Friendship Archway along the way). The list of activities is long: traditional paper cutting, dough sculpting, calligraphy demonstrations, mask coloring, New Year card and paper lantern-making and much more. An acrobatic troupe from China will perform and visitors can participate in a scavenger hunt during this cultural extravaganza.
