WalkingTown DC and BikingTown DC offer a perfect insider’s look into the heart of Washington DC’s arts, culture, and heritage by way of dozens of free guided walking tours in all eight wards of the District.

More Tours, More Times, More Ways to See DC

Grab your walking shoes and get ready for the WalkingTown DC and BikingTown DC. Dozens of tours will lead you through the neighborhoods of Washington, DC. This fall, one weekend and five days of weekday lunchtime and after work evening tours are perfect for grabbing family, friends, and coworkers to get outside for an educational walk through DC's neighborhoods.

Experience Washington, DC

WalkingTown DC and BikingTown DC celebrate the arts, culture and heritage of Washington’s diverse neighborhoods by featuring dozens of free guided tours. Explore the history and significance of DC’s African American figures, landmarks, and events. Get insider’s knowledge into neighborhood history as explained by resident experts, including abbreviated guided tours of the Neighborhood Heritage Trails, the Official Walking Trails of Washington, DC. Learn about DC’s visual and performing arts through exhibits and public art such as sculpture, murals, architecture. Head out to a tour featuring local sustainable development, urban parks, natural resources, flora and fauna. Historical period buffs will love exploring political unrest, social movements, and historically significant events including the War of 1812, the American Civil War, and the Civil Rights Movement.

Visit a New Neighborhood or Rediscover a Familiar Place

From the Mall to Mount Pleasant, both well-known and unfamiliar places are ready to be explored.

Exercise Body and Mind

Tours are led by historians, community leaders, business owners, artists, licensed tour guides, enthusiasts, and docents, who all donate their time and expertise for this event. Tours are offered at varying lengths and fitness levels, so it is easy to find a tour that is right for you. Many tours are walk-up but the majority requires online reservations. Several tours are wheelchair and stroller accessible.
