Tips for Tours

WalkingTown DC and BikingTown DC continue rain or shine. Cancelling a tour due to weather is at the discretion of the tour guide. Schedule is subject to change. Check back regularly for the most up-to-date information.

Please check our updates page for tour changes to the event schedule.

  • Arrive early. Non-reservation tours can fill up quickly.
  • Tours vary in length, so plan your schedule accordingly.
  • Tours of better-known neighborhoods are very popular, so expect significant crowds. Select a second choice in case your first choice is full.
  • Pick a fitness level that is appropriate. All tours are easy, everyday fitness, unless otherwise noted.
  • Most tours are outdoors; please dress appropriately for the weather. Comfortable walking shoes, water, bug spray, a hat, and sunscreen are recommended for all tours. Some tours may require photo ID and/or Metro card. Check tour descriptions for special requirements.
  • Tours are not pet-friendly unless otherwise noted.
  • Cross over! Take a walking tour and a biking tour. Please note however that bikes are not allowed on walking tours. To enjoy a walking tour, please lock your bike in a safe location for the duration of the walking tour.
  • Plan how to get to the tour in advance. The DC Circulator travels to many tour start locations. Public transportation for individual tours is available online.
  • Make multiple tours easier by exploring a ward or neighboring wards. Check online for ward location of each tour to plan a day of tours close to one another.
  • An evaluation will be handed out at the end of each tour. We greatly appreciate your time in completing an evaluation after each tour. Your feedback helps us to continually improve WalkingTown DC and BikingTown DC.
