A celebrity of the early 18th century with a hit on the London stage almost every year, Susanna Centlivre was the author of nineteen plays and numerous poems. Folger Theatre brings to the stage one of her best—The Gaming Table. Eleanor Holdridge, co-founder of Red Heel Theatre, which specialized in Restoration comedy, and now head of the MFA Directing program at Catholic University of America, will discuss Centlivre’s theatrical legacy with Dr. Georgianna Ziegler, Folger Shakespeare Library’s head of reference and curator of its exhibition Shakespeare’s Sisters: Voices of English and European Women Writers,1500-1700.
Attendees will receive a discount to see the play, running January 24 through March 4 at Folger Theatre.
