Dan Brown's book has invited readers to see Washington as a city of mysterious symbols, but there is so much more to be discovered. This look at the Mall’s symbolic history and shape begins in Freedom Plaza, where Brown’s heroes eluded their enemies, and it takes you on to the Mall, in sight of the Smithsonian Castle, the Holocaust Museum, and ends at the Washington Monument itself. Along the way you’ll get a chance to discover L'Enfant's “lost symbols” that most people including locals miss, and ones that Dan Brown only hinted at. You will come away with a whole new understanding of what the monuments on the Mall are really saying about the American story, and how within this space, the architecture, the design and habitual devotion of citizens take history and transform it into sacred myth
