September 12, 2010 - 1:00pm

See the "heart of Washington" as you have never seen it before. Stroll through Lafayette Square, the "President's Park," and learn tales of intrigue and espionage from America's darkest hours.

Who was the Confederate spy who practiced her wiles in the shadow of the White House? Who was the spy who spent long hours sitting in the park, and why? Which was the elaborate structure that housed the early days of "military intelligence"?

Continue your walk along Pennsylvania Avenue, the ceremonial link between the Capitol and the White House, as we discuss stories of intelligence and counter-intelligence concerning some of the familiar buildings on "America's Main Street." What was the motivation of the FBI counterintelligence agent who provided information to the Soviets at the same time that he worked to capture Soviets spies? And was there really a link between Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and the famous Cambridge Five group of spies?

You will conclude your tour in proximity to the major museums and tourist sites of Washington.

Testimonials

This tour delivers the goods.  Being raised just outside of washington d.c. (Bethesda), I've gone on innumerable DC sightseeing tours in my lifetime.   Every time a family friend or relative visited from out of town meant another trip down to the Mall, another sightseeing tour.  Monument tours, ghost tours, "Duck" tours, you name it I've done it.  But out of all the DC tours I've been on this was one of the best.  I went last weekend with my nieces and nephews on the Capitol Hill tour, which lasted a little over two hours.  The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of the historic sites and presented the information in a fun and lively manner.  His enthusiam for the subject was infectious.  He had my nieces and nephews in rapt atttention from start to finish.  Highly recommend.
