Tour: Spies of Capitol Hill

Location

Meet at "Liberty Bell" in front of Union Station
See map: Google Maps
September 26, 2010 - 1:00pm
October 31, 2010 - 1:00pm

Capitol Hill has been famous for two hundred years as the scene of political deal-making, of political maneuvering, of political gamesmanship, and also of acts of great political courage and distinction. Lesser known are the acts of espionage that have occurred in the very shadow of the dome of the US Capitol.

What connection does today's Hill have with spying activities of four hundred years ago? What little known husband and wife team truly changed the course of American intelligence? What Hill personage gave his name to an entire era, and how is he regarded today? We will see the offices and homes of some famous Hill residents (some of whom we do not usually associated with espionage), and learn little known spy stories about some of the most famous buildings in Washington.

Testimonials

This tour delivers the goods.  Being raised just outside of washington d.c. (Bethesda), I've gone on innumerable DC sightseeing tours in my lifetime.   Every time a family friend or relative visited from out of town meant another trip down to the Mall, another sightseeing tour.  Monument tours, ghost tours, "Duck" tours, you name it I've done it.  But out of all the DC tours I've been on this was one of the best.  I went last weekend with my nieces and nephews on the Capitol Hill tour, which lasted a little over two hours.  The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of the historic sites and presented the information in a fun and lively manner.  His enthusiam for the subject was infectious.  He had my nieces and nephews in rapt atttention from start to finish.  Highly recommend.
