In the cold of January, things will be warm at The Textile Museum as we celebrate the many arts and cultures of Africa at the third annual TM Mid-Winter Family Festival! Kids of all ages are welcome for a day of fun, complete with dress-up, storytelling, dancing, and crafts. Try on contemporary clothing and accessories inspired by the Kuba and other cultures of Central Africa in the African Adornment Studio with local artist Januwa Moja. Pose for a professional photographer and walk away with your picture! Hand-sew a Kuba-inspired textile in the Textile Learning Center. Enjoy snacks of cassava chips and South African red tea while master drummer Joseph Ngwa leads traditional drumming and dance, and master storyteller Baba-C entrances listeners with interactive storytelling. Each visitor is also entered to win great prizes! Avoid the post-holiday blues and cabin fever and bring the whole family to The Textile Museum for this fun program! This program is a collaboration with the Anacostia Community Museum.
"I looked at the new brochures for the Deanwood and Civil Rights Heritage Trails. I am always astonished and amazed at the work you do and the quality of it. Beautiful."
