African American Civil War Museum is celebrating Teacher appreciation day on October 2 and invites educators to an afternoon of good food, music and the opportunity to explore the educational opportunities and resources available at the African American Civil War Museum for educators.This is a free event and requires reservations. The museum also is having 'Story hour' that engages our youngest visitors of ages 5 to 10, in historic objects and museum settings by using traditional and contemporary stories about the Civil War and Civil Rights movement. Children will hear a story in the auditorium and enjoy a hands-on-craft.
In addition to the above the museum is organizing a "Civil War to Civil Rights: Best Lesson Plan Contest" and will award prizes for the most engaging and creative lesson plan units that fit the theme Civil War to Civil Rights. Winners will get an opportunity to present their plan at the 2012 Teachers and Scholars Conference May 19-20,2012. Entries for the contest is due by December 2, 2011.
