This monumental painting, created in St. Petersburg in 1883
by Konstantin Makovskii, was so popular with the public that
it was exhibited in Moscow, Paris, and at the 1885
International Exposition in Antwerp before it landed in a New
York city jewelry store. Eighty three years and many travels
later, it was given to Hillwood. Learn about the continuation
of its little known American journey, then continue chatting
with Anne Odom, curator emeritus, over a cup of tea.
