This summer’s Take 5! features the work of Thelonious Monk, one of the most renowned jazz artists of the twentieth century, in conjunction with the exhibitionAfrican American Artists: Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Era, and Beyond.

We continue our summer tribute to Thelonius with International Jazz Hall of Fame inductee Junior Mance, a band leader who knew Monk well and shares his birthday. The Junior Mance Quintet features Mance on keyboard, Hide’ Tanaka on bass, Kim Garey on drums,Andrew Hadro on baritone sax, andMichi Fuji on violin.
