Mysterious and aimed for the open minded, Silence! bends the boundaries of artistic expression and asks the audience to find meaning in the absence of sound.
In keeping with the poetic and thought provoking themes of this winter, AFDC is proud to present this artistic endeavor.

The event will feature:

  • A silent dance party where guests will be equipped with wireless headphones to hear 2 different sets of music. Click here for a video.
  • A screening of the finest French silent films
  • A Marceau inspired mime performance
  • A silent poetic interactive performance, given by a Gallaudet University poet, where guests will have the opportunity to discover French sign language.

Find your own beautiful perspective and explore the world without sound in this four part experience that is sure to create a buzz, yet leave you completely speechless.

Testimonials

“The DC Jazz Jam has provided a tremendous boost to DC’s indigenous jazz scene.  [The] cadre of fine musicians at Dahlak have managed to create a warm, inviting, encouraging, and creative environment at their weekly jam sessions, which is no small accomplishment.  Experienced professionals, like myself, attend the jam to relax, stretch out musically, and network with other players. But at the same time, the DC Jazz Jam has proved to be the perfect setting for younger talent to come out, and have some of their first experiences playing in front of an audience and to learn their craft in the laboratory of a nurturing jam session.  In this manner, the DC Jazz Jam is but the latest chapter in Washington’s long history with America’s classical music, jazz.”
