Please join the Octagon Museum, and Neighbors to the President Consortium sites, for a full-day walking tour of the Presidential Neighborhood. This is a rare opportunity to visit the interior of several hard-to-access buildings for special insights into the architecture and design of these historic landmarks.
The morning tour (9:00a-12:45p) will explore the Federal design of the Octagon Museum, the Greek Revival design of the Department of Treasury and the Beaux-Arts elegance of the DAR Museum. You will learn about architects William Thornton, Robert Mills, Edward Pearce Casey and John Russell Pope while touring the interiors of these historic landmarks. A discussion of the White House design (from the exterior) and architect Benjamin Latrobe will be included as well.
Tour Start: The Octagon Museum.
Check In: 8:45a - 9:00a
The afternoon tour (1:30p - 5:00p) will cover the more recent architecture of the Organization of the American States campus, the Federal Reserve Board - both designed by Paul Philippe Cret, and the Department of the Interior. From the Art Museum of the Americas, the design of the Main OAS building, the AMA, and the garden will be discussed. The Federal Reseve Board is considered one of Washington's best kept architectural secrets. After Federal Reserve, the afternoon will end with a tour of the Department of the Interior, constructed during the "New Deal" using a stripped classicism motif. A discussion of the Corcoran Gallery of Art Design will be included as well.

"I looked at the new brochures for the Deanwood and Civil Rights Heritage Trails. I am always astonished and amazed at the work you do and the quality of it. Beautiful."
