Come out to Fort Washington and learn about the people and events of 1814 that led to the destruction of Fort Washington. 

 

Learn details about the state of Washington's Defense, the path to freedom for many slaves in southern Maryland, and the trial of the commander at Fort Washington.

 

Program will include a walk around the grounds explaining the situation faced at Fort Washington on August 27, 1814. The Story of Fort Washington has been shrouded in hearsay and mystery for Almost 200 years, The National Park Service invites you to come to Fort Washington and decide for yourself what happened in 1814.

Learn how the US Army the hero's on the water (Navy and Marines) served on land to slow the British as they retreated from Alexandria.
