Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. Born in Washington, DC, Denise E. Derricotte is also a published poet. Her poem, “Before I leave this World I Would ask Myself,” is published in Timeless Voices. She has over twenty-five copyrighted poems. She is working on a semi-biographic screenplay called, “Niecy’s Bargain Basement.” She has written several poems for friends and family for all occasions. She is also in the process of self publishing her book of poems. She has performed for numerous birthday parties including her own in which she produced, directed and performed in an original skit. This will be the debut of her one woman show. She also portrayed a maid in a play for the Fine Arts Ministry at her church. She began writing poetry in 1990 and began performing on stage May 2005. She hopes to perform on many more stages with hopes of joining a theater company. Ms. Derricotte currently works for the United States Department of Agriculture/Forest Service as a Purchasing Agent. Denise believes in laughing with people and not at them. This is her mantra which simply means to make the heart merry.
