Foundation for the National Archives. On both sides during the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis each faced the difficult task of finding capable military leaders to take charge of the army and achieve victory. Who were the great generals of the Civil War? What kind of men were they? Was their motivation and military accomplishments linked to childhood experiences? This evening General Wesley K. Clark (ret.) moderates a panel discussion of The Great Generals book series. Panelists include John Mosier, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University and author of Grant; Steven E. Woodworth, professor of history at Texas Christian University and author of Sherman; Donald A. Davis, military historian and author of Stonewall Jackson; and Noah Andre Trudeau, Civil War historian and author of Robert E. Lee. Book signings will follow the program.
