There are some great events at the Anacostia Community Museum this October. Below is a small preview of the events.

Friday, October 7, 10:30 a.m.-Community Arts Series, Video and Discussion on "Mr. Dial Has Something to Say",This feature documentary explores the visual arts and forcuses on the life of Thornton Dial. His improvisational style of painting mimics the spontaneity of jazz and reflects a tradition of creativity that dates from Africa through the period of slavery and continues to the present day.
 

 

Saturday, October 8, 10:30 a.m.-Community Arts Series- join members of the Daughters of Dorcas & Sons Quilt
Group, and learn basic hand-quilting techniques, complete some small projects, and make a "2-for-one" block. No experience needed!

Wednesday, October 12, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.-Environmental Studies- Take a Walk on the museum’s Dr. George Washington Carver Nature Trail and learn about the benefits of natural recycling, the insect community,medicinal plants, and other outdoor offerings.

Thursday, October 13, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.-Career day- students can take a tour of the exhibition, and also learn about the various jobs required to create a museum.Students will also recieve a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum and meet the staff to learnabout their career paths that led them to work at the Smithsonian.The afternoon session of Career Day will include a surprise field trip to a Smithsonian facility.
