Foundation for the National Archives. Reluctant Rebels: The Confederates Who Joined the Army after 1861 by Edwin Cole Bearss
Kenneth Noe examines the motives and subsequent performance of Southern men who enlisted in the Confederate army after the feverish mobilization of secession had faded. He offers a view of men who have often been cast as less patriotic and less committed to the cause, rekindling the debate over who these later enlistees were, why they joined, and why they stayed and fought. A book signing will follow the program.
"I looked at the new brochures for the Deanwood and Civil Rights Heritage Trails. I am always astonished and amazed at the work you do and the quality of it. Beautiful."
