From the ancients to the moderns, most historians come at the field from the perspective of their own ethnicity or nationality. At best, it provides a window into their own culture. At worst, it descends into ethnocentrism, or simple falsehood. This lecture will discuss modern ethnic history as a genre, and then demonstrate its use with a discussion of the experience of Jews in the American military.
