The Chaser, a 2008 box office hit in South Korea directed by Hong-jin Na, is an acclaimed, gritty police thriller about a run-down former detective played by Kim Yoonseok (김윤석). Joongho now runs a small prostitution ring in which girls have started to go missing. When he sends Mijin, played by Seo Yeonghee (서영희), to a job only to learn that the callers phone number is the same one that led to the other disappearances, Joongho goes to rescue her and seek his revengebut hes too late to prevent her capture. Realizing the danger, Joongho desperately tries to find Mijin and is led on a day and night chase to confront a deranged, elusive killer played by Ha Jeongwoo (하정우). Having won numerous awards for its cinematography and acting, The Chaser is an example of Korean cinema at its most visceral. Viewer discretion is strongly advised for violence, adult language, and adult subject matter; rated R.
