September 21, 2010 - 7:00pm

As part of Experience Afghanistan, The Shakespeare Theatre Company is pleased to present an evening with esteemed author and humanitarian Greg Mortenson on stage at Sidney Harman Hall. Mortenson is the co-author of The New York Times best-selling books Stones into Schools and Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace, One School At A Time. Three Cups of Tea recounts the journey that led Mortenson from a failed 1993 attempt to climb Pakistan’s K2, the world’s second highest mountain, to successfully establish schools in some of the most remote regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. By replacing guns with pencils, rhetoric with reading, Mortenson combines his unique background with his intimate knowledge of the developing world to promote peace with books, not bombs, and successfully bring education and hope to remote communities in central Asia.

In conjunction with the run of The Great Game: Afghanistan and in context of issues presented in the plays, Mortenson will deliver a keynote address from his perspective as a humanitarian who has worked extensively in and around Afghanistan. He will also discuss chapters, stories and remembrances from his books and will be available for a book signing after the presentation.
