Dumbarton House. Hands-on family games and activities for all ages...with
cake and ice cream! Any excuse for cake and ice cream on a summer day, but why not for a birthday celebration for a great American patriot!
Joseph Nourse, the first Register of the U.S. Treasury who served under the first six U.S. Presidents, lived at Dumbarton House 1804-1813. Considered "America's First Civil Servant," he managed the new Federal government's money for 48 consecutive years (and, he managed the Continental Army's treasury during the Revolution!).
Mr. Nourse was born 256 years ago this month (July 11th), so bring your family and help us celebrate his birthday by decorating a cupcake and sampling some popular homemade ice cream flavors from the Federal period (not to worry, however, as we likely will not be attempting to make onion, oyster or asparagus ice cream flavors -- popular in the early 19th century!).
All ages welcome, but best for youngsters 12 and under. $3 per person. Drop in activities from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, but pre-registration helps us plan for you! Rsvp@DumbartonHouse.org or
