October 6, 2011 - 5:30pm - 8:30pm

Join other members of your community for an engaging discussion about Social Security and how it will be affected by America's changing demographics. The conversation will bring together various stakeholders, including concerned citizens, to help craft solutions to this pressing problem. Learn to separate facts from misconceptions about this contentious issue, engage in reasoned dialogue about possible solutions, and enjoy a delicious dinner in an intellectually stimulating environment.

We'll kick off the evening with a short overview of the subject matter, and present several possible solutions to the problem. Should we...

  • Keep Social Security intact?
  • Redefine the social contract to make Social Security sustainable?
  • Put Social Security taxes in private investments?
  • Make economic security in retirement a personal responsibility?

Participants will discuss and investigate these options in small groups moderated by trained facilitators. After a short break for dinner, groups will reconvene at the end of the evening to share ideas about how they would solve these critical national policies. Dinner will be provided by the museum, and is included in the program fee.

Advance ticket purchase is recommended for the program. For tickets, call the Koshland Science Museum at 202-334-1201 or email ksm@nas.edu.
