Historical Society of Washington DC. Videos, exhibitions, scavenger hunts, and workshops are just a few of the fun and informative activities available to children and their families at Thursday’s Child Salon. This week we feature a riveting video compilation by teens; and a fun, intergenerational acting workshop designed for family members to explore their personal history.
11:30 a.m. Video, Beyond Borders: Personal Stories from a Small Planet, 66 minutes
This compelling video is a creative burst of defiance and hope by teenagers overcoming huge obstacles they contend with in their lives. It’s a compilation of 11 short films written, shot and edited by teenagers who weave documentary filmmaking, animation, and archival footage to tell personal stories about what they most fear and how they build security to overcome those fears. These films are inherently thought-provoking, at times startling, but always inspiring. Originally broadcast on the Independent Film Fhannel –IFC–, this video features stories about Afghanistan, Argentina, Colombia, England, Guatemala, Jordan, Korea, Sierra Leone, Ukraine and the United States. (Suitable for ages 14 and above) No RSVP. FREE.
