Canstruction's Washington DC competition puts a visual spotlight on hunger while showcasing the design and construction industry giving back to the communities it helps build. Architects, engineers and contractors are challenged to design and build giant sculptures using canned food as their primary building block. Tape and cardboard serve as nails and cement. The colors and design on food product labels form the artists' pallet. "Bricks" come in a variety of sizes from the smallest sardine to the industrial-size tomato can.
Bring Canned Goods and VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE CANSTRUCTION: Now through October 1st / 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC 20006
On October 2nd, a panel of jurors from the design industry will judge the structures and prizes will be given for “Best Meal,” “Structural Ingenuity,” “Best Use of Labels,” “Jurors Favorite,” and “Honorable Mention.” You can vote for your favorite project by using canned goods as ballots and the team with the most donations wins “People’s Choice Award.” At 1:00 p.m. on October 2nd, the structures are "de-CANstructed" and donated to the Capital Area Food Bank. Testimonials

This tour delivers the goods.  Being raised just outside of washington d.c. (Bethesda), I've gone on innumerable DC sightseeing tours in my lifetime.   Every time a family friend or relative visited from out of town meant another trip down to the Mall, another sightseeing tour.  Monument tours, ghost tours, "Duck" tours, you name it I've done it.  But out of all the DC tours I've been on this was one of the best.  I went last weekend with my nieces and nephews on the Capitol Hill tour, which lasted a little over two hours.  The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of the historic sites and presented the information in a fun and lively manner.  His enthusiam for the subject was infectious.  He had my nieces and nephews in rapt atttention from start to finish.  Highly recommend.
