The Embassy of Australia presents Circles in the Sand: Aboriginal Art from Central Australia in the Kluge-Ruhe Collection. Featuring 28 outstanding paintings from the Papunya, Yuendumu and Balgo areas, Circles in the Sand celebrates some of Australia's most creative Indigenous communities.
Historically, much of the art from the desert was painted on the body or drawn in the sand. Since the 1970s these ephemeral images have been produced in permanent contemporary art forms, specifically acrylic paintings on board and canvas. During the last 40 years this art has grown into an art movement of global significance.
This exhibition is currently open at the Embassy and will remain open through September 17th. Gallery hours are from 11:00am to 2:00pm on weekdays. Photo ID required for entry.
