The U.S. Department of the Interior Museum closed on October 30th for a two-year modernization project. Throughout the project, the Museum will continue to offer public programs at other locations in the Main Interior Building on the first Wednesday of every month and Mural Tours by appointment.
Tucked away in a historic 1930s-era building is the Department of the Interior Museum. Museum exhibits highlight the Interior's role in Indian affairs, public land management, wildlife programs, and geologic research.
Natural history specimens, 19-century surveying equipment, expertly crafted dioramas, videos, and photographs document the agency’s changing mission from 1849 to the present.
The Indian Craft Shop, located within the Department of the Interior, has showcased quality and authenticity in American Indian arts and crafts since 1938.
