The National Aquarium's 80 exhibits display nearly 2,000 animals - including four species of sharks, Hawaiian reef fish, piranha, and an octopus. In a welcoming setting, visitors learn about the spectacular creatures that inhabit this aquatic planet.

In the Sanctuaries and Parks Gallery, visitors journey to 13 unique and protected National Marine Sanctuaries to view colorful fish from American Samoa to the Florida Keys. This Sanctuaries Gallery also explains National Park programs such as Buck Island National Park, one of the finest marine gardens in the Caribbean Sea, and the Assateague Island National Seashore, a barrier island with animals that have adapted to a life of sand, salt, and wind. Visitors can even get a close up look at American alligators in the Florida Everglades exhibit.

Aquarists will host daily animal feedings at 2 pm that are open to the public. This is an exciting opportunity for guests to ask questions and discuss the appetites and behaviors of the creatures these staff care for.

Schedule of feedings (subject to change without notice):
Sharks: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday
Piranhas: Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday
Alligators: Friday

Testimonials

This tour delivers the goods.  Being raised just outside of washington d.c. (Bethesda), I've gone on innumerable DC sightseeing tours in my lifetime.   Every time a family friend or relative visited from out of town meant another trip down to the Mall, another sightseeing tour.  Monument tours, ghost tours, "Duck" tours, you name it I've done it.  But out of all the DC tours I've been on this was one of the best.  I went last weekend with my nieces and nephews on the Capitol Hill tour, which lasted a little over two hours.  The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of the historic sites and presented the information in a fun and lively manner.  His enthusiam for the subject was infectious.  He had my nieces and nephews in rapt atttention from start to finish.  Highly recommend.
