Location

The Embassy has multiple bilateral and multilateral responsibilities. Bilaterally, Trinidad and Tobago’s Ambassador is accredited to the United States of America as well as Mexico while simultaneously serving as the Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the Organization of American States (OAS). The Embassy’s multi-lateral obligations also include OAS entities such as the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), as well as financial institutions and development agencies such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). The Mission also maintains regular contact with the following countries which are accredited to Trinidad and Tobago, viz: Botswana, Liberia, the Philippines, Senegal and the Kingdom of Swaziland.

Services Provided

Among the services provided are the promotion of trade, investment, tourism, passport, visa and consular services, including assistance to nationals, legalizing documents, verifying the authenticity of medical certificates, interviewing applicants for permanent residence in Trinidad and Tobago, interviewing, checking applications from former nationals who are applying for restoration of Trinidad and Tobago citizenship and verification of documents pertaining to the shipment of human remains.

The Work of The Embassy

The Embassy of Trinidad and Tobago is divided into eight functional areas of operation:

Representation

- represents and pursues the interests of Trinidad and Tobago and its nationals in the areas of trade, immigration, security, education, and other areas which require representation with the US Government.

Political

- ensures cooperation between the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and the Government of the United States of America on matters such as energy, security, and international relations. The mission also works closely with other members of the OAS to pursue joint developmental programmes.

Economic

- drives major economic proposals to the US Government and maintains relations with major international financial institutions based in the US.

Public Affairs

- reaches out to groups that play a major role in policy-making in the US, including the Administration, members of Congress and other interest groups.

Community Relations

- builds relationships with the community of Trinidad and Tobago nationals including associations of nationals and students.

Security

- works closely with the US Administration in various security programmes, as part of the Administration’s Third Border Initiative.
