Touchstone Gallery

Founded in 1976 by 30 artists, Touchstone Gallery opened its newest space at 901 New York Avenue NW in 2010. Located between CityCenter DC and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, artist-owned Touchstone Gallery has maintained a reputation for exhibiting contemporary work of high quality, vision and innovation. The Gallery also is known for its local, national and international work as well as its ongoing art outreach to the DC community. On display at the Gallery now is the exhibit COLORFEST, an explosion of colors, textures, shapes and forms created by 50 Touchstone Gallery artist members, and the show Beg Borrow + Steal: Works on Cardboard by Dana Brotman. Join many of the artists for the Opening Reception tomorrow, Friday, October 6, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

Dead Man's Run 5K

Join the ghosts and goblins for Congressional Cemetery's annual Halloween 5K! A bare bones race for dead serious runners, the race is this Saturday, October 7, at 6 pm. It starts with a toll of the funeral bell, winds throughout the cemetery and continues onto the Anacostia Trail for a ghostly evening run full of spooky music and fun! Meet in the beer tent after the race. Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded for the best individual and team costumes!

Museum 50th Anniversary Block Party

The Smithsonian's Anacostia Community Museum is commemorating 50 years of service to communities in the DC area with the yearlong celebration "Your Community. Your Story." Community partners will have information tables and local artists will sell their work. A shuttle will be running on a continuous loop to and from the Anacostia Metro (Green Line). The day's events are free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged.
