Malaysia's diplomatic relations with the U.S. dates back to 1957. The country has enjoyed a climate of political stability which has brought with it a high level of economic growth based on diversification of its economy, especially through industrialization and foreign investment.

A new chancery building was built for Malaysia in DC in 2002. Its architecture is reminiscent of the early 20th century buildings in Malaysia in that it represents a juxtaposition of Malaysian architecture with imported western elements recognized as the "Anglo-Straits" architectural style.

The Embassy has a grand reception area, with an eight-foot long multi-faceted crystal chandelier shaped to compliment the geometric pattern of its marble flooring. This exquisite site serves as a backdrop for unlimited political and cultural functions sponsored by the Malaysian Embassy.
