East River Jazz

East River Jazz is a group that advocates for jazz and cultural events in Anacostia and other neighborhoods of wards 7 and 8. The group promotes libraries, churches, schools and senior residences/service spaces as ideal places in which to host jazz events because people naturally gather in these spaces. East River Jazz welcomes persons who are interested in jazz culture and want to learn new information, share what they know, organize jazz culture events, and encourage others to enjoy the music. In June, the organization be part of the annual DC Jazz Festival, bringing jazz to communities along the Anacostia River.

Timon of Athens

Fortune strains the bonds of friendship. Timon is a wealthy and popular aristocrat with one flaw, an excess of generosity. Sparing no expense on lavish parties, expensive gifts, and charity, Timon later suffers a downturn of fortune and friendship. Robert Richmond (Othello, Richard III and Henry V at Folger Theatre) directs Shakespeare’s tragic satire about the fickleness of prosperity, with Helen Hayes Award-winner Ian Merrill Peakes in the title role. Enjoy this play at the Folger Theatre, showing until June 11.
