The Mexican Cultural Institute opened its doors on March 25, 2009 to host the event. Embassy chefs from Afghanistan, Haiti, Hungry, Madagascar and Morocco provided guests distinct regional flavors and culinary talent to the competition. Joe Yonan, Washington Post Food and Travel editor served as lead judge and was accompanied by celebrity judges including Chef Michael Richard, Chef Rock Harper, and Chef Carla Hall. Chef Nazha Kasraoui of the Embassy of Morocco was selected as the winner, receiving honors from the judges as well at the People’s Choice Award.
