DC’S ARTS AND CULTURAL PROFESSIONALS PREPARE FOR 2012
Washington, DC – Cultural Tourism DC, the nonprofit arts and heritage membership organization, host its
inaugural conference, Arts, Culture, and Tourism: Strategies for Success on January 26, 12:00–5:30 pm, at
the Charles Sumner School at 1201 17th Street, NW. This convening of the arts, cultural, and tourism
communities of Washington, DC features guest speakers, networking opportunities, and a keynote address,
Reaching Beyond Museum Walls: Strategies for Attracting New Audiences to DC’s Art and Cultural
Institutions, presented by Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole, Director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African
Art. The day concludes with Cultural Tourism DC’s annual meeting.
“Cultural Tourism DC is the major convener for the cultural community in Washington, DC,” said Executive
Director Linda Donavan Harper. “Our more than 230 members are on the pulse of what is happening in arts
and culture in the city. This conference is the perfect opportunity for leaders of one of the world’s premier
cultural destinations to connect and consider where we are and where we want to go.”
Conference sessions include “Delivering World-Class Service” presented by Bryan K. Williams, D.M.
(Chief Service Officer, B. Williams Enterprise), “Raising Money through Storytelling Success” presented by
Amy K. Harbison (Principal, Open Window Creative Strategies, LLC), “How Strategic Communications
Can Lead To Business Success in the Non-Profit Sector” presented by Ellen Mignoni and Charles Bentley
(APCO Worldwide), and “Social Media Success Strategies for Arts, Culture, and Tourism Organizations”
presented by Amanda Miller Littlejohn (Founder, Mopwater Social Public Relations). Cultural Tourism DC
Executive Director Harper will moderate a special roundtable for nonprofit executive, managing, and artistic
directors on the future of Washington, DC’s cultural organizations.
The conference starts at 1 pm with Dr. Cole’s keynote address. Break-out sessions follow from 2:15 to 4:30 pm.
From 4:45 to 5:30 pm Cultural Tourism DC presents its annual meeting, which is free and open to members and
guests. A pre-conference “affinity group” brown bag lunch is open for professionals from DC performing arts,
visual arts and museums, and tour organizations and individuals who want to network independently.
