Cultural Tourism DC Launches Tenleytown Heritage Trail

(Nov. 22, 2010)--On Saturday November 13, 2010, more than 400 people gathered at the Fort Reno bandstand for the launch Cultural Tourism DC’s Top of the Town: Tenleytown Heritage Trail. The trail is the eleventh District of Columbia Neighborhood Heritage Trail. The Tenleytown community came together at the highest point of the city to celebrate this new trail that chronicles the rich history of this unique neighborhood.

The event, presented by Cultural Tourism DC and the Tenleytown Working Group, was truly a community celebration. Neighborhood historians led guided trail walks. Community organizations hosted four open houses: Katzen Arts Center at American University, Tenleytown Firehouse,  St. Columba's Episcapal Church, and Fort Reno. Young students from the Middle C Music brass ensemble performed for the crowd. Local media personalities, Chirs Gordon (NBC4) and Rebecca Sheir (WAMU), and government officials, Mary Cheh (Ward 3 Council Member) and Gabe Klein (District Department of Transportation), joined in the festivities.

Now, the Tenleytown Heritage Trail is open to all. Grab your walking shoes and journey to Tenleytown to learn more about this historic neighborhood. Free guide books are available at business along the trail and available for download. Learn more about the Tenleytown Neighborhood Trail or download the free guide book.
