Civil War to Civil Rights: Downtown Heritage Trail is undergoing a facelift! So if you see a blank sign, don’t fret. A new panel wil be in place soon.
Cultural Tourism DC has partnered with the DC Courts to add four fascinating new signs to the Downtown Heritage Trail’s East Loop. The new signs take visitors from Pennsylvania Avenue and John Marshall Park to Judiciary Square, where they link up with the existing trail.
What’s on the new signs? Stories of John Marshall, DC’s 19th-century “Hash Row,” the recently revived and expanded City Hall/Courthouse, home today to the DC Court of Appeals, the notorious Wasington Jail, and more.
Why the blank panels on existing signs? Each sign carries a map of the entire trail route, and they all need replacing to show the four new signs.
