(Oct. 13, 2010) --Recently, developers and architects won the BZA’s approval for the redevelopment of the illustrious Strand Theater. Upon completion of the project, the ground floor of the building will feature select retail options, while the top floors will serve as office space sold exclusively to smaller businesses in Ward 7.
While the purpose of the Strand Theater will be re-defined, community members and organizations, such as the Historical Preservation Review Board, are working with the project’s architects to preserve the Strand as a historical landmark. The building will feature aspects of the old theater, such as an extended awning and intricate cornice work.
The Strand Theater is located on the Cultural Tourism DC Deanwood Neighborhood Heritage Trail.
"I looked at the new brochures for the Deanwood and Civil Rights Heritage Trails. I am always astonished and amazed at the work you do and the quality of it. Beautiful."
