Visit this historic 1876 synagogue building, sit in an original pew in the sanctuary, and hear what life was like for the 38 immigrant families who built the oldest surviving synagogue in the area. Learn about the physical changes to the building, both inside and out, and the move of the building that forever changed its future and secured its place in our nation's capital.

The Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington and its Lillian & Albert Small Jewish Museum preserve, chronicle, and present the story of the local Jewish community through archival collections, exhibits, educational programs, publications, and the restoration and preservation of the oldest synagogue building in the nation's capital.

All programs must be booked in advance online, or by calling 202-789-0900 or emailing info@jhsgw.org. Group walking tours cost $15/person (15-person minimum), and historic synagogue tours are a suggested contribution of $3. Contact Erin McCormally for information about school programs (1 hour minimum, please call for fees).
