As a world capital, Washington, DC presents unique opportunities to learn about and engage with world cultures. This spring, Cultural Tourism DC invites Washingtonians and visitors to cross borders and break down barriers, traveling around the world all from within the District’s boundaries.Starting Thursday, April 30, embassies will throw open their doors, drawing in visitors to experience the music, dance, crafts, and cuisine of their nation.
Cultural Tourism DC will coordinate the following embassy activities Thursday, April 30 - Saturday, May 9:
- Thursday, April 30: International Art Affairs Art Soiree and Benefit
Help us kickoff Passport DC at this exciting art soirée and benefit. The program features a served reception, Artini Bar, private exhibit, silent auction, artist meet and greet, and international music held at Moderno, a stylish collection of private residences on trendy U Street.
- Thursday, April 30 - Saturday, May 9: International Programs
Embassies will host smaller, individual events for the duration of Passport DC. Programming will range from concerts to exhibitions to lectures.
- Friday, May 1 - Saturday, May 2: Exclusive VIP Hotel Package from Kimpton Hotels
Visiting from out of town or just want VIP access to the Embassy Open House event? Five of Kimpton's DC hotels located on or along Embassy Row will offer the “Passport DC VIP Access” Hotel Package the weekend of May 2.
- Friday May 1 - Saturday, May 9: International Art Affairs Events
International Art Affairs presents a wide array of programs featuring exhibitions of work by fine artists from around the world in a variety of media, as well as lectures by renowned experts and artists.
- Saturday, May 2: Embassy Open House
Embassies will present a citywide free Embassy Open House featuring artists and artisans, performers, lecturers, teachers, and others that represent their unique cultures. Participants can find a range of educational and cultural programming that promotes global citizenship, curiosity, and interconnectedness.
- Monday, May 4: The Embassy Series Concert with Sasha Cooke
The one and only Sasha Cooke, mezzo-soprano, performs at the Austrian Embassy accompanied by Pei-Yao Wang, piano. The Embassy Series is pleased to present this concert as part of Passport DC.
- Saturday, May 9: International Children's Festival
The Meridian International Center continues the global celebration with the International Children’s Festival. This interactive and educational fun-fair introduces children and their families to embassies from around the world through unique hands-on activities.
